Cafe Hey! Concert Series #3 <>@ Cafe Hey!
1540 North Franklin
Street
Downtown Tampa, Florida
This was the
third in a series of shows at Cafe Hey! A special occasion it
turned out to be, reason number one was because from out of towners J.
Zagers and Oubliette had come all the way down just to help set it all
the way off right. The night started off with a fresh trio of
songs, all sung in Tampa for the first time, by Ant Parade. On
the first of the three an immediately stronger voice with a thicker
backing shook new dust from old rafters, strolling thru the fields
of falling beats on the next two with the same affect, Ant Parade's on
an
upwards roll. I shouldn't have turned up for this gig, I was in a
really bad place mentally but I had already agreed to play this show,
it was a big mistake on my part as I couldn't get it together and I
ended up totally melting down, this was one of my worst sets ever, my
apologies to all. Luckily, J. Zagers, also known by previous
names, stirred up
a
cauldron of searching sounds, took things to another level, roamed
about for spells, got back up, jumped a level or two higher, floated
around, up and down and side to side, a series of steps that lead to
worlds of journeys. Deeply moving in the overall depth and
flow, my eyes closed, my ears told me the truth. The end of
this set hung lightly in the air until Skeleton Warrior unleashed a two
man freak festival length junk jam from far off planet flip out and
changed the course of time and space forever, all for the love and
confusion of the tuned out and the turned on. Longer and weirder
than the 1960's and 1970's
combined, punker than the 1980's by aces of spades and more decadent
than the 1990's ever hoped to be, no way that this history making set
could have gone
any better. I wouldn't have
believed it myself if I hadn't been there and even then it's still hard
to believe. Oubliette had found a nice
spot across the street,
took up some space for his own, spread an invisible audible collage out
all over
the pavement and let it wash away without a trace down the drains and
on the tailends of
the whipping winds. That was a rap for me. Thanks to
all the bands that came out and played, thanks to Cafe Hey for keeping
the doors open and the power on, thanks to WMNF 88.5 for their interest
and support, and thanks to everyone that made it out and made it
happen.
Stay tuned for show #4.
