Black
Beast Of Arrrghhh,
Ant Parade, Yonas, and DJ Hollow Life
Cafe Bohemia
St. Petersburg, Florida.
Cafe
Bohemia is found on Central Avenue, right off of 9th Street in St.
Pete. I only ended up there because word floated across the bay
that some local bands were going to be playing on their outdoor patio,
it turned out better than I thought, largely because this is a really
nice spot to hear some bands, gaze up at the sky and feel the breeze as
it slows down and takes the time to roll around you as it passes
thru. It's a full moon. Enter the loons. I'm not
totally sure but I think DJ Hollow Life was first on the mat, one man
in one brightly tassled full head wrap, he took teeny tiny little
things that were making noise, stuck his thumbs in their eyes, pulled
at their ears and twisted their noses, making them plead for mercy the
whole time. I believe the title is still his. Ant Parade
marched from Tampa, across and over, to the St. Pete side of the bay
carrying a couple of brand new songs along for the occasion and making
the trek more than worthwhile for all concerned. The first one
took to the air and swirled it's way around the patio before taking up
off into the night, the second one bounced back and forth between the
bricks, leaving them all a little powdered in the process. A
couple more songs sung and at the end of this set I had the thought
that all of these songs had most likely been new to all these other
ears, there were no complaints. The Black Beast Of Arrrghhh
apparently brought it's own personal lair to this gig, once laid out,
this creature bellowed forth a primal roar that grew, twisting and
turning, riding out and up from a maze of caverns that must riddle the
earth's core. Once out in the open it tore around the patio
before disappearing into the blackness above. This beast
cannot be kept on a leash. The last scheduled band was Yonas, I
heard that this was either their first or second show, they're off to a
loud start either way. Drums, guitar, dual vocals, loud, fast, in
a hurry to mess with your head, they closed out a good night, of
sitting outside, watching the palms swing to and fro, having a cold
brew or a cup of
joe and a bite to eat with a friend or two, listening to music that you
wouldn't expect to find, unless you knew it was going to be
there. Thanks go out to the folks at Cafe Bohemia for letting
this take place, at their place. Thanks aplenty to the St. Pete
Institute of Noise for putting this all together. Keep it up.
