Haunted Food, Future Snakes, Cyber-Swarm, Ant Parade and Dark Sea Of
Awareness
Uncle Lou's
Orlando, Florida.
The
prospect of this show excited me for a good number of reasons, the main
one was that I'd be able to see and hear a whole slew of bands that I
was unfamiliar with and what's better than experiencing something
new? In my book, not much of anything. I hadn't been to
Uncle Lou's, or Orlando for that matter, since the pre-INC show that
was held there in
early February of this year, that gig ended up being quite smashing, in
more ways than one. I caught a ride across the Stunshine State to
this show with Ant Parade, multiple attempts were made to entice other
Tampa-ites to join us on this adventure prior
to the event itself
but...I guess there must have been something really super special on TV
that night or summat and we ended up making the journey by
ourselves. I'm sure that nothing that went on in Tampa that same
evening came anywhere near to being as excellent as this night turned
out to be. Dear Tampa, You blew it, big time. Haunted Food
were the first to play, the only thing bad I could say about this set
was that it was abbreviated, due to a combined loss of memory, aside
from that this band was a real treat, I was left hungry, for more
Haunted Food! Future Snakes plugged in and turned it on next,
turns out there's only one snake, it drew me in with some beats for
bait and then it struck, wrapping around me from head to toe and giving
me gentle rhythmic squeezes, luckily my head didn't pop off and
eventually it slithered off into a corner. Cyber-Swarm got their
act together and after the obligatory 1-2-3 hit the GO! button, wow,
yeah, wow, drums and synth, rat a tat tat, boom boom boom, buhwhoop
buhwhoop buhwhoop with the odd bleep bleep bleep, this was an attack,
no
doubt about it, I welcome another, anytime. Ant Parade's set
started off with two songs that had their live premier the week prior
in St. Pete., this was my second time hearing them both and they had
gotten even better the second time around, these songs were followed by
a few more Ant Parade "standards", despite there being absolutely
nothing standard about them, while saying that she didn't want to play
too long of a set tonight it seemed that the overall consensus was that
this set just didn't last long enough, a case of taking what you get,
appreciating it for all that it is, yet still wanting more. Last
up was Dark Sea Of Awareness, an apt name for this project as they made
me feel like I was floating on my back, in the middle of an unknown
ocean, the sounds of the world beneath the water and the world above it
both passing thru me with an equal ebb and flow. Unforeseen
technical difficulties cut this particular dream short but the dream
itself was one I'd never had before. The night drew to a
close at this point and that was ok because oh what a night it
was. Thanks go out to Uncle Lou's for hosting this event, Scott
for putting it together and making it happen and all the people who
came out and helped make it something to remember. I had a great
time seeing and hearing all these bands and I also really enjoyed
talking to everyone that took the time to talk to me. Orlando and
Tampa, separated by a short drive, let's try to make it a point to play
together more often.
